TVA SAYS IT WAS OVERCHARGED DURING NUCLEAR REACTOR CONSTRUCTION
Auditors say that a contractor overcharged the Tennessee Valley Authority over $6.8 million over the course of 5 years for the construction of a nuclear reactor. The overage was revealed in an audit conducted by the federal utility’s inspector general and claims that Bechtel Power Corp. overpriced meal expenses, overtime, craft labor costs and charged an incorrect rate for a veteran construction program. The company performed work from 2010 to 2015 on the Watts Bar Nuclear Power Plant’s Unit 2 reactor. TVA says that officials with Bechtel disagree with the audit results.
