TWO-CAR CRASH ON I-40 IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY LEADS TO CHARGES FOR DRIVER
A two-vehicle collision disrupted traffic on Interstate 40 eastbound Saturday afternoon, resulting in charges for a local driver but fortunately leaving all occupants uninjured. According to dispatch logs and accident reports, the crash occurred on June 27, 2026, at approximately 4:21 PM between mile markers 303 and 304.
A 2020 Chevrolet Spark, driven by 23-year-old Laura Timmcke, was traveling eastbound in the first lane of I-40. At the same time, a 2012 Lexus ES25, driven by 34-year-old Wefran Menjivar Orellana of North Carolina, was traveling eastbound in the second lane.
The Chevrolet Spark struck the rear of the Lexus. Following the impact, the Chevrolet came to a final rest blocking lane 1, while the Lexus came to a stop in lane 2.
Despite the interstate speeds, authorities confirmed that all parties involved were wearing their seatbelts, preventing any injuries.
The Lexus was heavily occupied at the time of the crash. Along with Menjivar Orellana, the passengers included 31-year-old Joselin Lopez-Lira and three children, ages 9, 5, and 4, all from North Carolina.
While the occupants of the Lexus face no charges, Timmcke is facing legal action following the investigation. Authorities have charged her with:
-
Failure to exercise due care
-
Driving with a suspended license plate
