TWO MISSING INDIVIDUALS FOUND SAFE BY CUMBERLAND COUNTY RESCUE SQUAD IN CATOOSA

A couple from Putnam County on a raft was located and helped out of a 300-foot gorge by members of the Cumberland County Rescue Squad yesterday. Crew members responded Saturday night to the area between Antioch Bridge and The Devil’s Breakfast Table on Daddy’s Creek in Catoosa Wildlife Management Area. The couple was located around 12:30 yesterday morning. After trying multiple access points, crews rappelled down the cliff and reached the two about daybreak. After assessing the conditions of the couple, crews led them downstream until the woman injured her ankle. At that point, the rescue squad had to re-assess evacuation possibilities. They decided to float her down the river until she became too cold. Meanwhile, a group of six rescue members forged up river with a stretcher until they reached the group coming downstream. Both were then evacuated by the rescue squad. Officials say the pregnant woman was treated for an ankle injury and the man for minor cuts. (pictures courtesy of the Cumberland County Rescue Squad)

After making visual contact with the couple in the gorge, Cumberland County Rescue Squad members plan their operation to go where the two are to help them
