VICTIM LOSES $4500 IN SCAM INVOLVING FAKE GRANDSON

Another victim has been scammed into losing thousands of dollars. The Cumberland County resident told investigators that he received a call from someone who he thought was his grandson who told him that he had been in an accident involving a DUI charge and needed money. The caller instructed the older man to buy Walmart gift cards so that the card numbers could be taken over the phone. The victim spent $4500 on five of the cards and did telephone them back to the alleged grandson. It was later, after the victim called his daughter that he found out his grandson had never been in such a wreck. The victim attempted to call the number back but could not make contact with the scam artist.
