WARRANT SWORN OUT FOR COOK AFTER ASSAULT ON OFFICER RESPONDING TO POSSIBLE OVERDOSE

Saturday afternoon, Crossville police officers responded to a call of a possible overdose in apartment 215 at the Village Inn apartments. The caller said her ex-girlfriend had texted her saying she had overdosed. The caller went on to say the woman’s text messages were no longer making sense, and the woman had a history of overdoses.

According to the arrest report, dispatchers who phoned 38-year-old Alicia Darlene Cook found her “extremely combative”; she said they would have to break down the door to get to her, called them profanities and hung up on them.

She slammed the door on Cumberland County EMS personnel who responded.

Apartment management provided police with an entry key to conduct a welfare check on Cook, after several verbal attempts to get her to open the door proved fruitless.

When they opened the door, officers found Cook lying on the bed. She placed an unidentified number of pills into her mouth and began to chew them, then washed them down with a swig of beer from the nightstand.

When asked what she had taken, Cook flew into a rage, capped the pill bottle and threw it at one of the officers. She then kicked the officer in the leg. She was immediately taken into custody to prevent her lashing out at other emergency-services personnel. While she was being subdued, Cook uttered statements that she wanted to die, continuing to repeat this as medical personnel attempted to discuss her medical issues with her.

Cook appeared intoxicated and became extremely uncooperative, refusing to speak with EMS personnel. She was taken to Cumberland Medical Center by police cruiser for her safety.

At CMC, Cook continued behaving in a belligerent manner.

The pills she took were believed to be Tizanadine, based on the information from the pill bottle she threw at the responding officer.

Emergency-room staff at CMC advised Cook would remain in their care while they treated her for the overdose and conducted a mental evaluation; she was not placed under arrest at the time the incident report was filed, but a warrant was obtained for her assault of the police officer.
