WATTS BAR FISHING CONDITIONS FOR AUG. 23, 2018

Watts Bar fishing conditions for Aug. 23, 2018

Reservoir Conditions: Summer normal elevation: 740.5 feet. Winter normal elevation: 736.0 feet. Current elevation: 741.05 feet. The water surface temperature is in the mid 80’s.

Largemouth Bass: Most anglers are fishing in the main channel or areas next to the main channel. Grass areas are holding some fish in the shallow areas. Plastic worms, spinnerbaits and all the typical deep structure lures are being used.

Smallmouth Bass: Fish the rocky banks located on the river with smaller profile baits. Night fishing will increase the odds of catching fish. Same as last week.

Crappie: Target deep brush or docks in or close to large water while using minnows or jigs. Fish at night near lights while using minnows or jigs. Not changed from last week.

Catfish: Use meaty baits in the main channel. Current will increase the odds of catching fish. Same as last week.

Striped bass: The Clinch River is better for now due to cooler water. Shad is the better bait.

White Bass: Some breaking fish can be caught. Most breaking white bass can be found in the mid lake. The mid lake breaks on the main channel are holding white bass that can be caught while using spinner-type lures. Most fish will be 15 feet deep or deeper.
