WELFARE CHECK RESULTS IN RECOVERY OF TWO SMALL CHILDREN

On Sunday, December 25, 2016, at approximately 8:47 p.m., Knoxville Police Department Officers Garrett Fontanez and Brian Mason along with the Knoxville Fire Department and EMS conducted a welfare check on a resident on Arkansas Road. The female resident was found to be under the influence of what was believed to be Xanax. While tending to the female, two small children under the age of 4 were discovered in the residence. The mother of the children had been arrested earlier today for vehicle theft. According to the preliminary investigation, the children had been staying in multiple residences and had no relatives in the immediate area.

Due to the condition of the resident Officers Fontanez and Mason immediately removed the children from the residence and provided them with food, played games, and let them watch a movie while they waited for the Department of Children’s Services to respond to the residence and take custody of the children. The investigation is continuing.
