WOMAN JAILED AFTER STROLLING ALONG I-40 TWICE IN ONE DAY

Last Saturday, Roane County deputies responded to Don Eduardo Mexican restaurant in Kingston for reports of a suspicious female.

Roane Dispatch said the caller stated the woman left a shed at a nearby hotel and lay down behind his vehicle. The caller said the woman then walked up an adjacent street.

Deputies made contact with 38-year-old Britney Adair Cook at the intersection of Old North Kentucky Street and Armour Road. Earlier, Cook had been picked up by another deputy while walking down Interstate 40, then taken to the hospital. That same deputy had previously encountered Cook about 7 a.m., walking down Interstate 40. At that time, he gave her a ride to the 352 Kingston exit, where she said she was staying.

Deputies had warned Cook go home and stop walking on the interstate. Cook insisted she had not taken anything, but the deputies’ prior experience with her led them to conclude Cook had taken some form of mood- or behavior-altering substance.

Cook was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the Roane County Detention Center for processing.
