WOMAN TELLS DEPUTIES OF UTILITY FRAUD IN HER FAMILY’S HOME
On Monday, Deputy Jacob Moore spoke with a woman who came to report a potential fraud. She explained just recently her family members who were living at a residence in the Browns Creek Drive area had passed away, and that no one was staying there currently. Due to this, she had the electricity to the residence turned off.
However, she found out that a neighbor had been using electricity from the home, and went on to explain that on Oct. 21st the neighbor had taken a forged letter to VEC (Volunteer Energy Cooperative) which claimed the neighbor had permission to turn all utilities in her name.
Underneath the message, it was then signed as if the homeowner had signed it and dated Oct. 21st.
The complainant said she did not give her neighbor permission to do this, spoke with her neighbor about it, and that the neighbor asked the homeowner not to get her in trouble.
The homeowner has since spoken with someone at VEC who stated that at this point there is nothing she can do at this time.
No charges have been filed as of yet.
