12-YEAR-OLD ACCIDENTALLY HIT WITH PELLETS FROM SHOTGUN BLAST IN CUMBERLAND CO.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department was notified yesterday of a 12-year-old girl in the extreme eastern part of the county who was injured in a recent accidental shooting. The report indicates the victim heard a noise that frightened her, grabbed a shotgun from behind a door in the home and took it to her father who was outside. When he saw the firearm in her hand, he told her to slowly put it down on the ground. As she tried to, the shotgun discharged striking the ground in front of her. Some of the pellets “back splattered” striking her in the leg. The shooting has been ruled accidental and the girl was treated at Roane Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
