PAROLE DENIED FOR MAN CONVICTED OF FIRST-DEGREE MURDER IN CUMBERLAND CO.

The Tennessee Prison Board of Parole confirmed to 105.7 News today they denied the early release of a man convicted of first-degree murder in Cumberland County.

Jeannie Brummitt Preston was 25 years old when she was killed September 5, 1987 in Cumberland County by Lawrence E. Goss. Goss was 22 at the time of the murder. Court documents state Preston was beaten to death by Goss with a hammer and she sustained severe fractures to her skull. Her body was left in the Catoosa Wildlife Management Area where she was found six days later. Goss was later found guilty by a jury in Cumberland County and sentenced to life in prison.

Goss remains incarcerated at the Bledsoe County Correctional Complex. His next parole hearing is scheduled for January 2022.
