CRASH ON HWY 70 N LEADS TO THE ARREST OF A 68-YEAR-OLD FOR DUI

On Friday evening, Crossville city officers responded to a crash with injuries off HWY 70 North, just north of Livingston Road. An off-duty officer observed the crash and was assisting in aid when the driver alleged she had been on the phone. He observed the driver pick up an empty wine bottle and place it in the back seat of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 68-year-old Mary Ann Galloway. Detectives who were at the scene believed that Ms. Galloway could be intoxicated. A city officer instructed her to stand in front of his patrol car when she attempted to open his driver’s door. She also was trying to get into a Community Complex van and had a hard time following instructions. The officer noticed an odor of alcohol and slurred speech when communicating with Ms. Galloway.

According to the police report, she did admit to drinking wine that day. Although her story kept changing when it was consumed. After consenting to perform a field sobriety test, Ms. Galloway failed when the officer noticed 4 out of 6 clues of her being intoxicated. Due to her not being able to follow directions and keep her balance, officers determined she was not able to safely operate a vehicle. Her blood was taken by CMC staff and she was arrested for driving under the influence.
