CUMBERLAND COUNTY FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE TWO STRUCTURE FIRES IN ONE DAY
Cumberland County Fire and Rescue responded to two structure fire calls on Friday, May 15, 2026.
At approximately 8:04 AM, units were dispatched to the Royal Oak Charcoal Plant in Monterey for a fire over the furnace. Crews found a small smoldering fire under the ductwork above the electrical room, caused by trapped sawdust. They extinguished it using 30 gallons of water and foam, with assistance from Crossville Fire and Rescue. The scene was then turned over to the plant’s maintenance department.
Earlier that morning at 12:39 AM, firefighters responded to Price Loop in Rockwood for a woodstove chimney fire with the wall on fire. Upon arrival, they found an active fire and extinguished it with 200 gallons of water. The owner reported having no insurance on the property, but the damage was not so extensive that the residents needed to leave.
