FORMER MORGAN COUNTY INMATE TO BE ARRAIGNED THURSDAY FOR FIRST-DEGREE MURDER OF DUSTIN PEDIGO

Former Morgan County Correctional Complex inmate Reginald Steed is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, June 18th at 9:00 AM for the first-degree murder of Corrections Officer Dustin Pedigo. The proceedings will take place on the second floor of the Morgan County Courthouse in Wartburg before Judge Jeff Wicks, following a May grand jury indictment that also charged Steed with possession of an unlawful weapon in a penal facility.

The charges stem from the fatal February 24th stabbing of Officer Pedigo, an incident that has prompted a broader Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) probe into issues at the correctional complex. Steed, who is currently serving a 27-year sentence for aggravated assault, especially aggravated robbery, and attempted voluntary manslaughter, is being housed at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville.

According to 9th District Attorney General Russell Johnson, the grand jury adjourned its May session but is set to reconvene on Tuesday, June 23rd to receive additional information and testimony regarding the TBI’s ongoing investigation.
