The Harriman City Council convened a lightly attended regular session last night, handling routine business such as appointing board members, approving surplus city equipment, and waiving rules to fast-track the lease of two vehicles for the police chief and the new city manager.

During a subsequent work session, officials shifted focus to traffic safety, discussing plans to request a TDOT study for Highway 70 near the Pinnacle Point Shopping Center. To curb accidents in the developing Midtown Corridor, the city proposed implementing a right-turn-only restriction at the center’s middle exit.

Mayor Wayne Best also highlighted visibility hazards at the intersection of Pansy Hill Road and Riggs Chapel Road, which were worsened by ongoing bridge construction and concrete barriers. Best stated that improving safety at the intersection is a priority and noted the city may consider acquiring a 5,000-dollar property via eminent domain if an agreement with the owner cannot be reached.
