CUMBERLAND COUNTY RESIDENT TARGETED IN SUSPECTED IDENTITY THEFT ATTEMPT
A local resident recently discovered they were the target of identity theft after receiving an unsolicited bank card for an account they never authorized.
According to a report by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the victim contacted the bank upon receiving the card. Bank officials confirmed that an unauthorized account had been opened using the resident’s personal information.
Quick action by the financial institution prevented any financial loss; the bank successfully blocked an attempted mobile deposit on the fraudulent account and immediately closed it. A responding deputy documented the incident for official records.
At this time, no suspects have been identified or arrested, and the investigation remains open. Authorities remind residents to regularly monitor their credit reports and financial statements for unusual activity.
