AREA 911 CENTERS EXPERIENCE MISROUTED CALLS

The Tennessee Emergency Communications Board was notified yesterday (Tuesday, November 7, 2017) that multiple 911 centers across the state were experiencing misrouted calls. It is believed the incident occurred during a software update by a location database management company utilized by local 911 centers. The incident began around 12:25 p.m. CDT and lasted until approximately 4:45 p.m. CDT. The issue was resolved when the company rolled back the update which restored correct routing of calls. Tennessee consumers should remember that while misrouted calls may occur occasionally, widespread incidents like this are extremely rare. The board has requested additional information from the database management company to learn more about this incident. The board is currently developing a statewide database solution as part of its Next Generation 911 project that will replace third-party database services and better prevent episodes like this from occurring. Affected area 911 centers in yesterday’s misrouted calls included Bledsoe County, McMinn County, Overton-Pickett, and Sequatchie County.
