BILL PROPOSES THAT DRIVERS AREN’T LIABLE IF PROTESTERS IN STREET ARE HIT

A new bill introduced in Tennessee proposes that protesters blocking a roadway could not sue for damages if hit with a vehicle. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Sen. Bill Ketron of Murfreesboro. Under the bill, if a person is blocking traffic during a protest or demonstration, and they are struck by a driver, the protester would be unable to sue the driver in civil court for any injuries. However, the driver would not be immune from civil liability if the actions leading up to the injuries were willful. The senator said that citizens have the right to protest. But protest peacefully. He said that “Protesters have no right to be in the middle of the road or our highways for their own safety and the safety of the traveling public.”
