BIZARRE CASE OF REAL ESTATE FRAUD IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY
On Saturday, Deputy Keanan Austin was given a name and number regarding a possible scam. He spoke to a local realtor who said she listed a property for sale on Rodgers Rd In Cumberland County. She said stated that a male identifing himself as the homeowner, reached out and asked her to list his property, and provided an email and phone number which she used to communicate with the male subject.
The realtor said that this individual sent her a photo of a DL with the homeowner’s name listed. She also told the deputy that she went by and looked at the property to take pictures and noticed that the property had a camper and some other structures on it.
She said she spoke with a neighbor and explained to them that she was contacted by the “homeowner” and asked to list and she found an interested party and they made a offer.
She then told the deputy she received a phone call from the real homeowner who said he travels and uses the property as a campsite and that he was not selling his property and confirmed his identity with a DL photo of himself. The realtor said that she believed the second gentleman she spoke to, to be the real homeowner and wanted
to make a report.
At the time of this report, the realtor hasn’t been able to speak to the first gentleman by phone but will respond back and forth by email.
In a separate report by Deputy Ronald Fields, he describes getting a call from dispatch the same day regarding fraud. The caller said that around 11:00 a.m. that morning, a gentleman showed up to his property check out his property that was listed for sale.
The homeowner advised the male that his property was not for sale, which is when the unknown male told him that his property was listed on Zillow and Realtor.com as for sale.
The homeowner then called the realtor and asked for her to remove the listing from Zillow, to which she said she would.
