BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT IN HARRIMAN CONTINUING AS SCHEDULED

The Margrave Street bridge replacement project in Harriman continues to go on as scheduled. Construction crews have built the peers that will hold up the steel girders. The girders will span a couple of set of railroad tracks beneath. If all goes as planned, the construction is to be completed by the end of the year. Harriman city officials hope to have a ribbon cutting when that happens. The old bridge was deemed unsafe for crossing by TDOT back in 2012 and eventually closed until repairs could be done. However the railroad, who owned the bridge, reportedly decided to tear down the former structure before even telling the city their plans. In late 2014, the city began to seek a grant to help replace the bridge. The replacement project started late last year. The City of Harriman reportedly paid $185,000 to cover their part in the total cost of the project.
