Tennessee Tech women’s basketball head coach Kim Rosamond did not have to travel far to find one of her top 2018 signees. Hannah Garrett, a Jamestown, Tennessee native in Fentress County, has made her mark right down the road at Clarkrange High School, one of the premier programs in the state of Tennessee. Rosamond announced yesterday (Wednesday, November 8, 2017) the 6’0″ guard/forward has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Tennessee Tech program for the 2018-19 season.

Garrett and the Clarkrange Buffaloes, coached by Lamar Rogers, have made two appearances in the TSSAA Class A State Championship game, having finished as runners-up in Garrett’s freshman and junior seasons. Clarkrange fell to Garrett’s future TTU teammate Taylor Lamb and South Greene in the 2017 state tournament title game. Garrett has also helped the Buffaloes to two district and two regional titles.

“I am beyond excited Hannah Garrett has decided to stay home and be a Golden Eagle. Like Taylor, Hannah comes from a championship background,” Rosamond said. “She has played for one of the most storied high school programs in the state and for a Tennessee high school coaching legend in Lamar Rogers. She knows how to compete and win at a high level.”

Individually, Garrett was named to the TSSAA Division I Class A All-State team in 2017 and has been selected to the Region 4-A team twice and District 7-A first team twice in her career. She received District 7-A honorable mention as a freshman in 2015 and made the conference all-defensive team as a sophomore in 2016. She has played for the Tennessee Fury on the summer circuit the past two years and was coached by Justin Boatman.

“Hannah has one of the purest three-point shots I’ve seen. Her ability to stretch the defense and her versatility to play multiple positions will add another dimension to our team,” Rosamond stated. “I think Hannah’s best basketball is ahead of her, and I know our fans will love seeing her in purple and gold for the next four years.”

Garrett can also claim family ties to Tech, as her great-aunt, Brenda Choate Lee, played basketball and volleyball for the Golden Eagles in the early 70’s. Her former Clarkrange teammate Brittany Cooper is also in her junior season at Tech.

“I chose TTU women’s basketball because when I first met the coaches, they were very energetic,” said Garrett on her decision to sign with Tech. “As I got to know the staff and the players, I realized that this was just the opportunity I had been working for my whole basketball career. I saw the drive and desire for Tennessee Tech women’s basketball to once again become a contender in the OVC and NCAA. TTU offers the studies I’m looking for, starting in biology and possibly pursuing a degree in marine biology. I love the fact that it is close to home and my family will have the opportunity to watch me play as much as possible.”

Garrett joins Lamb as the only early signees for Tech women’s basketball.

“Both Hannah and Taylor are not only outstanding on the court, but they are role models off the court. Who they are as student-athletes and young women exemplifies our core values and what our program represents,” concluded Rosamond.

The early signing period for NCAA Division I women’s basketball began today and will continue through Wednesday, November 15.

Tech opens up the 2017-18 season this Friday, November 10 at home versus Tennessee Wesleyan. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m. CT.
