A Cookeville man was arrested after police pulled him over and found drugs, a handgun and a 16-month-old child in his car.  Jaime Lynn Hutson, 31, of North Jefferson Avenue was charged for multiple offenses in connection with the Friday incident.

Cookeville Police Officer Matthew Gribble said he stopped a vehicle on Freeze Street after receiving a complaint that the vehicle was weaving in the roadway and almost caused a crash. After speaking with the driver, the officer said he noticed Hutson showed signs of intoxication and smelled of marijuana.  “The subject was unsteady on his feet, had red and watery eyes and slurred speech,” Gribble said. The officer said he did not attempt to administer field sobriety tests because Hutson was combative. The man did, however, agree to submit to a chemical test to determine the level of intoxicant in his system.  A records check revealed two previous DUI charges, one in Putnam County in 2009 and another in Van Buren County in 2006.  Hutson reportedly had two kinds of illegal drugs and an item of paraphernalia. Gribble said he found several pills of a prescription narcotic with a high rate of abuse, as well as several ounces of marijuana. The officer reported that the man also had a handgun.  Although the officer says Hutson was traveling with a 16-month-old child at the time of the traffic stop, he does not offer further details on the child.

Hutson was uncooperative with officers attempting to arrest him, “refusing to be cuffed and refusing to get into the police car,” Gribble said.  Hutson was charged with a third offense DUI, two counts of possession of drugs for sale and delivery, possession of a firearm while attempting to commit a dangerous felony, reckless endangerment of the child and resisting arrest.  He was booked with a bond of $28,000.
