CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL GIVES NOD TO NEW ANIMAL SHELTER PROPOSAL
Tuesday night, the Crossville City Council gave their nod to the possibility of a new animal shelter located within the city limits. Dr. Mark Hendrixson brought the proposal to the council last week. According to Hendrixson, the current shelter, which is funded by the city and county, is in bad need of renovation. But it was proposed that a new shelter and adoption center be built and located inside the city for easier access. The proposal also included the city donate the land. $200,000 in private donations has been collected, and according to Hendrixson, approximately $300,000 more is needed to get a new shelter started. Mayor Pro Tem JH Graham made a motion that the city would be willing to donate the land if an additional $200,000 in like-kind donations could be raised within 6 months. That added to the city and county donations of $180,000 would get the shelter started. City Mayor James Mayberry said that the proposal had not been fully worked out, particularly where the county is concerned, and that the motion was premature. The motion passed 4-1 with Mayor Mayberry voting against.
