CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL SET TO DISCUSS POSSIBILITY OF 2 ADDITIONAL MEMBERS

The Crossville City Council will hold their first monthly meeting of the New Year Tuesday evening. One of the agenda items included is a discussion of possibly adding two additional members to the committee. It’s something that has been talked of before. Council Member Pamela Harris has requested the discussion. In the past few years, the council has been considered “click-ish” due to the fact that previous council members have been said to “group-together” in their voting practices on certain matters. Harris believes that two more members would give residents more representation. She also believes that it would give more women an opportunity to be on the council. City Mayor James Mayberry also has said that he likes the idea and that would change the dynamic of the council. According to City Attorney Will Ridley, a resolution would have to be presented to state legislators by representatives. It would then return to the city council in the form of a referendum. The council will have to move fast on their decision: The deadline for presenting a resolution to the state is February 15.
