CUMBERLAND COUNTY BOE CHOOSES RENOVATION PLAN FOR CRAB ORCHARD ELEMENTARY
The Cumberland County Board of Education made a decision on the Crab Orchard Elementary School renovation matter Thursday night. The school has had several issues over the years including sewer/septic problems and a leaking roof. Kim Chamberlin with the Upland Designs Group was tasked by the board to review the situation and last month, he presented the board with two options: Option A would include a full renovation of the existing building plus additions. Option B included the demolition of the old building along with renovations of the 2001 wing plus additions such as a gymnasium. After much discussion, the BOE opted to go forward with Option B at an approximate cost of $9 million. The board will be meeting with commissioners on the county Education Committee on Monday, Dec. 12 in order to discuss the matter.
