CUMBERLAND COUNTY BOE HEARS FACILITIES UPDATE
The Cumberland County Board of Education received a facilities update Thursday night. Architect Kim Chamberlain reported that preliminary walk-throughs involved with re-roofing work at North and South Cumberland Elementary Schools were finished. Chamberlain said that work at North would be more time-consuming due to the foam-type roof material. He also stated that some leaky windows contributing to the problems would also need to be replaced. Some masonry work would also have to be redone. Since the work is more involved, Chamberlain suggested waiting for it to begin when school is out in the spring. South school had some similar problems, but Chamberlain said that the work would not be as complicated and that replacement could probably begin as soon as March. The BOE passed a motion approving preliminary costs be obtained and brought back to the board in October. Chamberlain also said that he would have more information on possible upgrades at Crab Orchard Elementary at the same meeting. Finance Director Travis Isaacson also reported on the situation concerning the Crab Orchard sewer/septic system replacement. The low bid on the job was awarded to Lori Neal & Associates at a cost of $89,000. Isaacson said work on the project should begin shortly.
