FALLEN MARYVILLE POLICE OFFICER IDENTIFIED

Tennessee police badges are striped with blue today in observance of the death of a Maryville Police Officer. The victim, identified as 32-year-old Officer Kenny Moats was shot and killed in the line of duty after answering a domestic disturbance call to the Alcoa Trail area in Blount County. Officer Moats and a county deputy responded to the scene where 44-year-old Brian Keith Stalans was reportedly fighting with his father. The officers were able to move Stalan’s father to another area, when the suspect opened fire on them, hitting Officer Moats in the throat neck, right above his bullet-proof vest. Stalan was finally apprehended after a short standoff. Moats was airlifted to UT Medical Center where he later died. Regional Police Departments are rallying around the city in a show of support for the fallen officer.
