CUMBERLAND COUNTY COMMISSION TURNS DOWN INNER LOCAL AGREEMENT WITH CROSSVILLE OVER RECREATIONAL CENTER

Cumberland County has opted out of a proposed inner local agreement with The City of Crossville on funding the construction of an indoor recreation center. A draft of the agreement was presented to the commission Monday night. Several questions came up, particularly from interim Commissioner Harry Sabine who stated that the commission had not been privy to information on the facility until recently. It was understood that the city wanted to precipitate the creation of the agreement so that a referendum for voters’ approval could be placed on the November ballot. Sabine said that if the city wanted to partner with the county on the facility, it should have started talks a year ago. A motion was made to turn down the agreement and seconded. The motion passed 12-14.
