DIPETRO STRESSES UT’S DIVERSITY IN “STATE OF THE UNIVERSITY” ADDRESS
In his State of the University address earlier this week, UT President Joe DiPetro praised the school’s attention to diversity but he also said that there was “tension” in the air as the school tries to be more “broad-minded.” DiPietro said he understood that navigating change can be challenging, but said demographics are changing and students have to be prepared for diverse workplace environments. The school has come under fire lately for diversity initiatives, particularly in the school’s annual student-lead “Sex Week”. During the speech, DiPietro called for UT to be a leader in civility when so many are polarized at this time on such issues.
