ETHICS COMMITTEE CITES REP. DUNCAN FOR IMPROPER CAMPAIGN SPENDING

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives Ethics Committee released its assessment of allegations against Rep. John “Jimmy” Duncan (R-Tenn) of improper campaign contribution spending.

According to the committee’s report, the board voted five to one to cite Duncan, saying, “there is substantial reason to believe that Rep. Duncan failed to ensure his campaign committee complied with applicable laws regarding contributions from employees,” and recommending the committee further review the allegations against him.

In the report, questionable contributions and purchases included nearly $25,000 in travel expenses, nearly $30,000 on sports and concert tickets and another $24,000 on private club memberships, including the Knoxville Quarterback Club.

The report indicated Rep. Duncan’s campaign committee may have taken contributions from people already employed by his congressional office. The contributions were allegedly made in the form of payments on behalf of Duncan for Congress, payments which were later reimbursed by the campaign committee.
