No imminent danger exists. However, the primary goal for TWRA and TDF is to keep the Genesis fire from progressing towards homes in the area. Fire breaks are currently being installed by four bulldozers. Although officials are unsure of the total acreage burned in the 85,000 acre WMA, the Genesis area fire is the largest, having burned over 1,000 acres. This fire was thought to have been set on the evening of October 17.

Smoke from the wildfires is noticeable to those traveling on Genesis Road near the Cumberland and Morgan County line. Marc Lipner, Region III WMA Coordinator stated, “Fire has historically been used by both public and private landowners in this area. Although today, it must be done correctly and lawfully, at the right time of year. We urge residents to use extreme caution when dealing with any potential fire causing substances. To lawfully burn, residents should obtain a burn permit from October 15 through May 15. ”
