GATLINBURG CONTINUES TO SEE BUSINESS INCOME DECREASE SINCE WILDFIRES

Gatlinburg Officials say that they continue to see business income decrease since wildfires devastated the area in November. In fact, they say they have seen a decrease of some $19 million in business trade. Restaurants, hotels, and retail stores cited a 36.5 percent decrease in business during the month of December, usually one of the busiest shopping seasons in the area. The total gross income in business for December 2015 was $51,952,882. The numbers dipped the month after the November wildfire at $32,992,914. According to reports, the hotel and motel business suffered the most with $16 million in December 2015 and $7.8 million in December 2016.
