HEAT RISES IN AREA ALONG WITH AIR QUALITY ALERT ISSUED

The heat is definitely on in the listening area. Health officials are urging the public to take caution being outdoors as heat stroke and heat exhaustion can set in quickly, and you can sunburn easily in just a few minutes. Wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothing, apply plenty of sunscreen and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Make sure pets have a way to cool down (shade or indoors) and plenty of fresh water. Be sure to check on the elderly and individuals who may not have air conditioning. Also, remember to never leave children or pets in a closed vehicle with the windows up. Temperatures inside can reach over 140 degrees in minutes. A CODE ORANGE air quality alert is in effect today for Roane, Loudon, Anderson, Knox, Sevier, Blount and Scott counties for elevated levels of ground-level ozone. People with sensitive respiratory systems should avoid extended periods of time outdoors.
