KENTUCKY MAN FOUND DEAD IN DITCH APPARENTLY DROWNED

No foul play is suspected in the death of a Barbourville, Kentucky, man found dead Friday morning. The body of 42-year-old Robert Saunders was found in what police describe as a deep, water-filled ditch – at the intersection of KY-3439 and Stephen Trace Road in Knox County, Kentucky – by a utility worker.

A medical examiner in Frankfort yesterday ruled Saunders’ death an apparent drowning, pending toxicology reports.

Police reportedly believe Saunders may have been impaired before he fell into the ditch. State Police spokesman Josh Messer revealed Sanders and his girlfriend had reportedly used methamphetamine the night before he was drowned. An investigation into his death is ongoing.
