KNOXVILLE PREPPING FOR WEEKEND CONFEDERATE MONUMENT PROTEST
The City of Knoxville is making preparations for an expected weekend protest against a Confederate monument so that there is no repeat of the situation which occurred in Charlottesville. The protest concerns the monument which was erected in 1914 to honor those in the Battle of Fort Sanders. Special steps are being taken with road closures, special rules and extra police. Certain areas will be cordoned off for the protestors to use and all protestors will be scanned by a metal detector. No masks, face-coverings or shields will be allowed. The city is asking protestors to not bring poles or sticks, as well as no guns or knives and nothing that could be used as a weapon. The monument has already been vandalized three times in the last week.
