KNOXVILLE REPEALS GUN BAN AT CHILHOWEE PARK FOR NON-TICKET EVENTS
Knoxville Officials have made the decision to repeal a gun ban at Chilhowee Park when ticketed events are not happening. The ban was lifted because of a lawsuit that had been previously filed by a Loudon County woman in 2015 who claimed that when she was unarmed, she feared for her life while attending the Tennessee Valley Fair despite the fact that she had a state-issued handgun carry permit. Earlier that year, the state agreed to prohibit cities and counties from banning guns at parks, playgrounds and ball fields, but city officials contended that Chilhowee was not a “defined” park, but rather a “public assembly, entertainment, and education venue used for civic events”.
