LAWMAKERS WANT TO MOVE JAMES K. POLK’S TOMB TO COLUMBIA
Lawmakers in Tennessee are driving forth the idea to dig up and move President James K. Polk’s body for the third time since his death and state residents are upset. Polk died almost 170 years ago and was instrumental in the seizures of Texas and California and entering a war with Mexico. He died in 1849 and is buried on grounds in Nashville. But some officials say that Polk’s tomb is in such an out-of-the-way place that most visitors do not know where it is and they say that he deserves better. They want to see the grave moved to Columbia, to an area where his father was from. Distant relatives believe the idea is “mortifying” and motivated by money.
