MAN ATTEMPTS TO MAKE LOAN PAYMENT WITH COUNTERFEIT $100 BILL

Crossville police responded to Woodmere Mall early Friday afternoon after a Western Finance customer attempted to make a payment on his loan with a counterfeit $100 bill.

The customer entered the business shortly before 1 p.m. and handed an employee what looked like a $100 bill. When checking the bill with the counterfeit-bill pen, the mark turned black, indicating a fake bill.

Not realizing she was supposed to confiscate the bill, the employee returned it to the customer when he made a hand gesture to give it back.

The man subsequently made his loan payment with another $100 bill that was genuine currency.

The employee said the customer “had several bills in his hand” and she she suspects he might have additional counterfeit bills.

There was no video surveillance footage of the transaction. No charges have yet been filed.
