MAN FACES KIDNAPPING CHARGE AFTER INCIDENT AT AREA MOTEL

A man is facing kidnapping and other charges following an incident at an area motel Monday (July 3, 2017). According to the arrest report from the Cookeville Police Department, officers responded to Key West Inn to a report of a woman being held against her will in a room. The victim told police she was attempting to leave the room when 26-year-old Jake Eric Steele allegedly became upset. Steele allegedly assaulted the woman in the room. Other tenants heard her screams and assisted the victim. Officers arrested Steele and charged him with kidnapping, aggravated assault, resisting arrest and introduction of contraband into a penal facility. Steele was transported to the Putnam County jail and initially placed under a $23,500 bond.
