MAN IDENTIFIED IN LAST WEEK’S OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING IN WHITE COUNTY
The TBI has identified the man that was killed in Thursday’s officer-involved shooting in White County. According to agent’s reports, Michael Zennie Dial II of Clarksville, was traveling through DeKalb County driving a pickup truck pulling a fully loaded trailer when he failed to stop for deputies. He continued on Highway 70 to Highway 111 in White County being pursued by Smithville Police. Both White County and Sparta law enforcement joined in the pursuit, during which time Dial sideswiped and rammed three cruisers and injured three officers. At some point, the trailer’s tires came off resulting in a fishtail into the median. Then a White County Deputy and Sparta Officer opened fire at the truck in an attempt to stop it. Dial went down an embankment and struck a tree. He died at the scene. The three officers were treated at local hospitals.
