Event Details

Roane State Community College is set to host a grand opening celebration for its brand-new permanent home in Fentress County, the Fentress County Higher Education Center.

The celebration is scheduled for August 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM CT. The public, students, faculty, and project supporters are invited to attend the event, which will feature remarks from college presidents, special guests, campus tours, and refreshments.

A Unified Hub for Higher Education and Workforce Training

Although already operational after relocating from its former Clarkrange site earlier this summer, the new facility marks a major milestone for the community. The building brings together two major educational providers under one roof:

  • Roane State Community College

  • Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Fentress County (a TCAT Oneida / Huntsville Campus)

Co-locating RSCC and TCAT aims to expand student access to a diverse array of degree programs, certificate options, specialized courses, and vital workforce training.

“Having our friends at TCAT under the same roof with us means we can offer even more choices and better serve the people of Fentress County,” said Roane State President Chris Whaley.

Building Naming and Honorees

A central highlight of the August 24 event will be the official unveiling of the facility’s name: the “Ken Yager & Jimmy Johnson Building.”

Approved earlier this year by the Tennessee Board of Regents, the building honors Tennessee State Senator Ken Yager and Fentress County Executive Jimmy Johnson. President Whaley praised both leaders for their multi-year advocacy and dedication to securing the county’s first permanent college campus.

Event Details

  • Date: August 24, 2026

  • Time: 11:00 AM CT

  • Activities: Welcome addresses, remarks by Sen. Yager and County Executive Johnson, building tours, and refreshments.

  • RSVP / Contact: While RSVPs are not strictly required, attendees can confirm their attendance or direct questions to Sherry Kirkland at [email protected].
