OAK RIDGE CARJACKING LEADS TO PURSUIT AND ACCIDENT
Oak Ridge police officers responded yesterday to a report of a carjacking in the parking lot of Red Lobster on South Illinois Avenue. It was reported that a man forcibly took a vehicle occupied by an adult female passenger in a wheelchair.
After taking the vehicle, the suspect forced the passenger from her wheelchair and from the vehicle in the restaurant parking lot. The woman was not injured.
The vehicle was located a short time later in Clinton by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies pursued the vehicle on Clinton Highway into Knox County, where it was involved in a traffic crash near the intersection with Powell Road.
The suspect was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time. Criminal charges are pending. The names of those involved were not initially released.
