ROANE COUNTY BUDGET PASSES WITH NO NEW TAXES FOR SCHOOL PLAN
In a packed courtroom last night, the Roane County Commission unanimously approved the 2018-2019 budget with no new taxes for the proposed school building project. While several citizens spoke about the proposed $67 million school plan, the commission did not mention it before they voted on the property-tax rate. A wheel tax referendum is still on the ballot for November 6. Voters could at that time choose to carry out a $50 tax that would help fund the school plan.
