Firefighters responded to a structure fire in Ooltewah Thursday night. 911 Dispatch received a call around 8:30 PM for a house fire at 5204 Village Garden Drive. The Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Dept. answered the call but failed to see a visible blaze. They were told that the basement was filled with smoke. Battalion Chief Jerry Vanderfoff reported that it appeared that the fire had burned itself out due to lack of oxygen. Two teenagers were upstairs asleep when they smelled smoke and escaped unharmed. The parents were not home at the time. $10,000 worth of damage was reported and an investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
