SUSPECT CHARGED IN DEATH OF PLEASANT HILL MAN

A suspect has been indicted for the murder of a Cumberland County man which took place in late January. Sheriff Casey Cox says 47-year-old Billy Joe Wannyn was originally named as a Person-of-Interest in the death of 71-year-old Albin Von Buechel. Buechel’s body was discovered at his home on Seagraves Road in Pleasant Hill on January 21, 2018. He had been stabbed several times. Wannyn, who is from Spencer, Tennessee, was located and interviewed and after evidence was collected and processed, Wannyn was confirmed to be the main suspect. Wannyn was on probation from White County and was immediately charged with violating probation after failing a drug test. He has been in jail since, January 22, 2018. The Grand Jury returned indictments that include premeditated first-degree murder, felony murder and aggravated robbery. His bond was set at $1.5 million and he is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Criminal Court on March 19. Sheriff Cox acknowledges the following law enforcement agencies for their help in this case: the TBI, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, both White and Van Buren County Sheriff’s Departments, Crossville Police, and the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
