TENNESSEE LAWMAKERS PUSH FOR SUNDAY WINE & LIQUOR SALES

It’s been less than two years since Tennessee grocery stores were given the Okay to sell wine. Now state lawmakers believe that it’s time to open up wine and liquor sales on Sunday. Beer can already be purchased on Sundays or holidays. State Senator Jon Lunberg says that he “would rather see people stay in Tennessee to purchase their adult beverages during big events or holidays other than going to Virginia.” The proposal still has to move through the General Assembly, while some state representatives are pushing the legislation through the House, other officials have expressed their concerns about it. They say that Sunday liquor sales would hurt package store sales as an extra day a week would increase overhead and would also put them in more competition with grocery stores.
