THEFT OF PETERBILT TRUCK LEADS TO MURDER OF CROSSVILLE K-9 OFFICER

The full story involving the theft of a semi-truck which ultimately led to the death of a Crossville K-9 Officer can now be told. Wednesday morning, Cumberland County Deputies tried to stop a Peterbilt truck that was reportedly involved in a hit and run on Highway 68. The driver of the rig, later identified as 28-year-old Dustin Lee Dixon, failed to stop for blue lights. The pursuit then led into the city of Crossville where police joined the chase. The high speed pursuit ended when Dixon crashed the truck into a tree along a hunting trail off Genesis Road. K-9 Officer Cain was able to locate Dixon, who was hiding in a wooded area, but not before Dixon was able to stab the K-9 Officer multiple times, leading to his death. After the suspect was taken into custody, it was learned that he had stolen the rig, which was valued at $50,000, from FNT Logging. Dixon, who has a lengthy criminal history, was charged with theft, along with the death of a service animal.
