TRAVEL UPDATE FRIDAY JANUARY 19

(6:35 am central)

A thin coat of ice covered the roads last night but temperatures hovering around 32 degrees helped weaken most of the ice by this morning. State highways are fairly clear and have patches of snow.  State Highway 298 (Genesis Road) still has packed snow and patches of ice.  Roads within the city limits of Crossville are mostly clear with some ice reported earlier at Miller Bypass and Lantana Road.  Most county roads are still snow-packed and have a thin coat of ice on them.  The ice seems to be breaking down on the more heavily traveled county roads, but those less traveled can be extremely treacherous.

Interstate 40 is mostly clear between Nashville and Knoxville.  The tractor-trailer wrecks on I40 last night on Rockwood Mountain and in Loudon County near the I40/75 split are off to the side and at least one lane of traffic is passing.

I 75 North of Knoxville to the Tennessee State line is very icy and has several areas causing traffic delays as drivers are proceeding with extreme caution.
