TWO ARRESTED ON HIGHWAY 70 WEST; FELON IN POSSESSION OF A FIREARM
On Wednesday, Officer Keyton Harthun noticed a black Jeep Cherokee traveling outbound on Highway 70 West with illegal window tinting. The officer asked Deputy Roberts to stop the vehicle for the window tint, needing the help of deputies due to the traffic congestion.
After conducting the traffic stop, the officer approached the driver’s side of the Jeep along with Deputy Roberts and saw two men inside. The driver was identified as Robert Kinder, and the passenger was identified as tamer Jason Jones.
The two men were asked if there were any weapons in the vehicle, and both said no. But once the driver and passenger exited the vehicle, a search found them in possession of syringes.
After acquiring consent, a search was performed on the vehicle, and located in the front storage compartment by the gear shifter was a firearm magazine for a 40-caliber pistol. Also in the vehicle was a black high point 40 caliber pistol with a loaded magazine, a Browning 22LR pistol, bags of jewelry, silver and gold coins, comic books, and various tools including digital scales and computers, as well as personal documents and passports belonging to Gilbert Wennerstorm.
Wennerstorm was previously arrested by a detective and White County and his documents were released to kinder.
During the search, both Kinder and Jones were asked if they were felons, to which they said yes. Both were placed under arrest for felon in possession of a firearm.
The firearms, ammunition, and magazines were seized and placed in evidence. The digital scales were destroyed.
