ALGOOD POLICE CHIEF FIRED
Algood, Tennessee Police Chief Gary Harris was fired yesterday after circumstances of misconduct late last week. City officials confirm that Harris received his letter of termination late yesterday.
Harris was placed on administrative leave last week after a set of audio and video tapes surfaced. Attorney Brett Knight says he received the tapes from a concerned citizen. A cell phone video reveals Harris driving around Cookeville allegedly with an open container of alcohol. Harris is on an audio recording allegedly talking how he could obtain prescription medications without a prescription. In a different audio recording, Harris allegedly appears to be having a phone conversation about women being employed on the police force in unflattering terms. Several of the audio recordings also referenced the legality of the recordings and how they might be explained.
Officials have submitted the recordings and findings to the district attorneys office.
